Two Fire Extinguishing Systems for Energy Storage Containers

PROTECTION SCHEMES ONE: Aerosol Fire Extinguishing System Together with Water Spray System

This system is currently recognized as a relatively good energy storage fire protection system.

It uses a combination of aerosols and water spray systems to protect energy storage containers. The specific steps are as follows:

• Small lithium battery aerosols are installed in the battery pack or box, Each battery pack requires the installation of one corresponding specification aerosol fire extinguisher, Aerosols provide total flooding protection and automatic detection for the battery box.
• The battery cluster is protected by a medium-sized aerosol and installed in the upper part of the rack, due to limited space at the top of the rack, please use the correct installation method during installation.
• Large-capacity aerosol generators are installed on top of energy storage containers to fully submerge and protect the entire container.
• At the same time, due to the possibility of a second re-ignition after a lithium battery fire is extinguished, in addition to installing an aerosol system, we also need to install a water spray system in the container. after the aerosol is sprayed, the water spray system continues to spray, to completely extinguish the fire.
• Generally, in the new energy containers, corresponding fire alarm systems need to be installed, including gas fire control panel, manual call point, heat detector, smoke detector, fire alarm bell, gas releasing indicator, strobe and horn, maintenance switch, etc.

PROTECTION SCHEMES TWO: Gas FM200 or NOVEC1230 fire extinguisher with Water Spray System

We can use a small FM200 or NOVEC1230 fire extinguisher to protect the cluster rack.

The installation principle and method are similar to aerosols, but the product is different. This time, we used a power bank style or box-type heptafluoropropane or NOVEC1230 fire extinguisher.

Remark: Water spray system as backup or compensation system.

The specific methods and steps are as follows:

• Protecting the battery pack with micro lithium battery aerosol fire extinguishers.
• Use a power bank style or box-type heptafluoropropane or NOVEC1230 fire extinguisher to protect the lithium battery cluster and rack.
• Large capacity of cylinder type FM200 or NOVEC1230 fire extinguishing system to protect the whole energy storage container, there are also pipings, tees, elbows, metal pipes, and straight pipes.
• Finally, to prevent secondary fire recurrence, a water fire extinguishing system with a pipe network is also necessary.
• In any case, the overall protection of energy storage containers requires the installation of fire alarm and detection systems.

The fire protection plan for energy storage containers is mainly used to protect the following three areas:

• 1. protect each battery pack, with many lithium batteries inside.
• 2. protect individual battery clusters or racks with several battery packs inside.
• 3. protect the whole space of the energy storage container.
